Spectacle also assured in BHRC and HVRS!
Countless major chapters regarding Belgian motorsport have been written in the Spa region, not only on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit– in its various adaptations – but also on the roads crisscrossing the surrounding areas of the Pearl of the Ardennes.
DG DSport, the Organisers of the Herock Spa Rally, is part and parcel of the tradition and is welcoming not only competitors in the ‘modern’ Belgian Championship (BRC) as also the enthusiasts of older machinery, whether they opt for pure speed (BHRC) or regularity (HVRS).
Since seeing the light of day the event distinguishes itself from all the other meetings on the Belgian calendar by opening it up to the widest possible spectrum of participants. Whichever category they opt for, they will be offered an identical programme: “For the regularity specialists, the Spa Rally represents a meeting that is both distinctive as it is exciting”, those at DG Sport commented. “It takes on the same roads as the speed merchants and as such discover some playgrounds often previously unseen for them. Even if they adopt a different approach, they will appreciate taking on this gripping challenge! “
Daniel Reuter-Christian Bernard inaugurated the HVRS Spa Rally record book by imposing a Porsche 924 in 2015 in front of a wide panel of diverse cars, a ‘works make ‘in regularity rallies. Twelve months later, Gaëtan Schoonbroodt- François Geelen took the laurels after a hard fought battle in their superb Ford Escort RS Mk1.
This Ford Escort RS – Mk1 just as Mk2 – that over the years has retained its attractive side among the general public and competitors alike. It is not for nothing that François Duval himself had opted for this mount in 2016, he who claimed loud and clear that he was coming to Spa to ‘have fun in going into the attack without any afterthought or average to be respected’. He widely fulfilled his objective and added an excellent victory to his impressive record of achievements, following a tooth and nail battle with the Porsche drivers François De Spa, Jean-Pierre Vandewauwer and Bernard Munster.
Second round of the BHRC (Belgian Historic Rally Championship), the Herock Spa Rally should confirm the escalation of the ‘youngtimer’ models such as BMW M3, Subaru Legacy, Toyota Celica GT4 and Ford Sierra Cosworth. Their confrontation with the finest of the category– Ford Escort, Porsche 911, Opel Kadett GT/E and Ascona, etc., – will undoubtedly constitute one of the major poles of interest of this Herock Spa Rally 2017 that, more than ever, will be the link between motorsport’s past and present.
