Spa Rally Dozot and Lizen win Division 2, Collignon and Boussifet crowned champions

The BRC Division 2 competitors battled it out over the first two loops on Saturday, two series of four stages each. While champion Quentin Collignon opened proceedings in dominant fashion, setting the fastest time in SS1 Fays Show, the brand-new Peugeot 208 Rally4 ran into technical problems as early as SS2 Chevron, disappearing from the standings due to an intercooler issue before rejoining the rally later in the day.

The first loop claimed other victims as well, with Michiel Van de Velde (Renault Clio Rally5) also facing technical troubles and Marc Lespire (Peugeot 309 GTi) crashing out. Although Jonathan Georges (Renault Clio Rally5) claimed the fastest time in SS3 Trois-Ponts Show, it was Valentin Dozot (Peugeot 208 R2), quickest in SS2 Chevron and SS4 Wanne, who returned to the service park leading the standings at noon, enjoying a comfortable 51.1-second advantage over Georges, who lost significant time in the loop’s final stage! Local hero Grégoire Destexhe (BMW 325i E30) followed 1:01.1 behind, ahead of Jelle Campforts (Lada 2107) and Bart Schoenaers (Opel Corsa A GSi).

The situation did not change dramatically in the afternoon, especially since the final stage was cancelled. Valentin Dozot returned to Spa victorious, still ahead of Jonathan Georges, with the gap increasing to 1:12. Grégoire Destexhe confirmed his top 3 finish on home turf, while in the fight for fourth place overall, Bart Schoenaers edged out Jelle Campforts by 2.4 seconds! Exciting stuff!

It’s worth noting that the last three stages were won by Quentin Collignon, who nevertheless had to settle for ninth place overall. He was however still able to celebrate, along with François Boussifet, his Belgian Division 2 championship title…

Proof that there is always something happening at the Spa Rally!
