Spa Rally Spa Rally Classic: the finale of the Belgian VHRS championship!
The Spa Rally, organized by DG Sport, is an event packed with title deciders! Even though some major titles have already been awarded, the chance to end the 2026 season on a high note – especially at such a perennially popular event that kicks off the end-of-year festivities – has attracted a top-tier field of competitors.
What applies to the speed rally and the Belgian Rally Championship holds true for the regularity category as well. Since the creation of an official Belgian VHRS championship – featuring regularity rallies run at average speeds of 50 or 65 km/h – experts in the discipline have become fixtures at national rallies. As a pioneer with the Spa Rally Classic (the regularity component of the Spa Rally), DG Sport has played a major role in the ever-growing popularity of this type of competition.
The 2026 edition of the Spa Rally Classic is scheduled for November 28 and 29 and promises to be a vintage year! The title battle between René Georges and Romain Lahaye (Volkswagen Golf GTi) on one side, and Yves Deflandre and Baptiste Gengoux (Porsche 911) on the other, will be decided on the stages around Spa – which, for the occasion, also serve as regularity tests. While the Georges-Lahaye duo may have dominated the season so far, a technical issue during the final RT of the East Belgian Rally has thrown Deflandre and Gengoux right back into the title fight! It promises to be an exciting showdown...
In the VHRS 65 category, the established frontrunners are aiming to shine once again. We are talking about Julie Kenis and Bjorn Clauw (BMW 325i E30), Nicolas and Michel Graeven (Porsche 924), Frédéric Sente and Sabine Antoine (Volkswagen Golf GTi), Pieter Van Loocke and Johan Vanpoucke (Citroën Visa GTi), Lieven Lannoye and Seppe Vanrolleghem (Porsche 911), and many others who we hope to welcome at the start.
Add to that a few duos running an 'à la carte' programme – such as Roeselare winners Ruben Maes and Aswin Pyck (Porsche 914/6) – or the regional crews who have mastered the art of regularity driving to perfection, and you realize we are in for a breathtaking finale!
Things might be a bit less tense in the VHRS 50 category, as Patrice Simon and Christian Bernard (Porsche 924 S) have enjoyed another successful season and have already secured the title. For their rivals, however, the Spa Rally Classic offers a golden opportunity to bounce back and defy all predictions. The Mazda 323s of Gilles Thibaut/François Souka and Michel Thibaut/Guy Hardenne, the Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1300 of Jean-Christophe and Mathieu Henderickx, the Triumph TR6 of Philippe Vandecandelaere and Yves Thirionet (making a comeback!), and also the Nissan Sunny of Mario Varrewaere and Pablo Cracco are all capable of putting up a serious fight. We are certainly looking forward to it...
As you can see, regularity rallying will be a major talking point in Spa – fitting for a time when the discipline is clearly on the rise, whether in open-road events or VHRS competitions like the Spa Rally Classic. May it last a long time!
