Spa Rally Off to the Power Stage!
The second loop of Sunday's Spa Rally, contested in sunny conditions and under blue skies, was fairly quiet. Maxime Potty (Citroën) claimed the fastest time in SS14 Trois-Ponts 2, ahead of Jos Verstappen (Skoda, 6”9), Charles Munster (Hyundai, 9”7) and Cédric Cherain (Hyundai, 10”5), proving that not everyone is taking all the risks anymore. In SS15 Chevron 2, Potty was back on the pace ahead of Verstappen (1”3), Munster (5”2), an excellent Tom Rensonnet (Citroën, 8”0) and Cherain (8”5).
This means that ahead of the Power Stage, the standings remain stable, with Verstappen still leading from Cherain (24”9) and Potty (48”6). John Wartique (Skoda) stays in 4th place at 1'48”4, while Bernhard ten Brinke (Skoda, 2'42”9) is feeling the pressure from Tom Rensonnet (2'45"1) for the last spot in the top 5.
The top 10 is currently completed by Munster (3'01”4), Thibaud Mazuin (Skoda, 5'40”3), Romain Delhez (Porsche, 6'16”6) and Roger Hodenius (Skoda, 6'21”2).
Pierre Hubin (Renault Clio Rally3) remains leader in RC3 and Maxim Decock (Opel Corsa Rally4) in the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup Belux ahead of Tom Heindrichs, Lander Depotter and Pierre-Manuel Brasseur. Nard Ippen and Thomas Martens keep on battling in the Clio Trophy Belgium, with the driver from Limburg getting the better of the Dutchman, who will nonetheless win the title. Geoffrey Leyon (Ford Escort Mk1) remains the clear leader in Historic BRC.
The Spa Rally Power Stage takes place at 3.34 p.m., and should enable Cédric Cherain to clinch his first Belgian Rally Championship title!
